About Embroidery Fabrics
We embroider on several different types of material:
- Pima Cotton – Pima cotton is so comfortable, you’ll want to wear it all the time. 100% Pima cotton fabric is exceptionally soft and feels wonderfully smooth. The long-staple Pima yarns give the fabric greater durability than ordinary cotton, but with the same easy care.
- Piqué [peeKAY] – A knitted fabric with a waffle, or diamond-shaped, pattern. French piqué knits became an international favorite when René Lacoste, a 1920’s French tennis champion, designed the polo shirt. We recommend you choose a pique polo shirt for most uses. Although, it’s usually a heavier fabric, its “meshy” knit provides a great deal of “breathability”.
- Jersey – A knitted fabric with a plain, flat surface on the outside and a textured surface inside. Tee shirts are the product usually associated with jersey knits, although lower-priced polo shirts are also fabricated from jersey knits. We recommend jersey knits when price is the only constraint. Otherwise, we recommend you choose a pique or interlock polo shirt.
- Interlock Knit – A fabric that has two plies knit simultaneously to form one thicker and heavier ply. It has more natural stretch than a jersey knit, a soft hand, and the same appearance and feel on both sides. We recommend interlock when you want a smooth surface and quality is more important than price.
- Polynosic – A fabric derived from rayon, that features similar characteristics to cotton and silk, has excellent luster and very little shrinkage.
- Jacquard Knit – A pattern knit directly into the fabric during the manufacturing process. Typically, 2 or more colors are used.
- Tubular Construction – A method of knitting that yields fabric in a tubular configuration which is cut into sections that form the body
of a shirt without side seams. Tee shirts are generally constructed using this method as are some value priced polo shirts. - Microfiber – This fabric is tightly woven from a very fine poly thread and has a sueded finish for a luxurious, soft feel. Microfiber fabric is naturally water repellent due to its construction process and when specially treated, can also be waterproof.
